Volunteer Bike Shop Positions

 At Sport Central, we depend on our volunteers to help accomplish the following day-to-day tasks. This list outlines the prerequisite skills, knowledge, training and experience required to perform each task. New volunteers can expect to receive some basic training to help them meet the requirements set out in the prerequisite section of each position below. Our normal hours extend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Bicycle Pre-Service

Description: Straighten valve stems, inflate tires, turn handlebars, lube seat-posts, strip non-functional accessories, wash and label bikes prior to repair.

Frequency: Continuous, year-round task.

Pre-requisites: Beginner knowledge of different bike types.

Bicycle Parts Salvage

Description: Strip and stock high valued parts and dispose of residuals.

Frequency: Continuous, year-round task.

Pre-requisites: Good mechanical skills with a strong knowledge of bike components, nomenclature, and serviceability standards.

Note: New volunteers in this position will receive instruction on how to meet Sport Central serviceability standards.

Bicycle Repair

Description: Repair, test ride, and label pre-serviced bikes in accordance with Sport Central serviceability standards.

Frequency: Continuous, year-round task.

Pre-requisites: Strong mechanical skills with a detailed knowledge of bicycle components, serviceability standards, and repair techniques.
